We've enjoyed our first 24 hours in Antigua seeing and absorbing the activities of Holy Week (Semana Santa). Tomorrow is the big kick off with the major procession and alfombras (street carpets made of sawdust) of Palm Sunday as the highlight. There have already been some processions during lent, one of which we saw yesterday as it began in and left the cathedral. Many more processions and alfombras will come during the week.
